Skinny jeans and capri pants are two of the most favorite pieces that compliment every woman in every occasion all around the clock. Going through this summer’s hottest days, it is paramount to maintain our great looks and look chic at all times. To achieve that, we need to pick our footwear carefully so that they match our outfits and show off our stylistic choices. Below is a short guide regarding the best shoes you can wear with skinny jeans and capri pants, so you look dazzling and trendy all year round!
Best Shoes For:
SKINNY JEANS
There are many tops that you can pair with your skinny jeans. Choose the wrong shoes and you will definitely ruin your outfit, no matter how flattering. To make sure you don’t experience this uncomfortable situation, you can wear:
1. Flats
If your hips are narrow and your legs like a mile, skimmers and ballet flats are just perfect for pairing with skinny jeans, given that they are elegant, not bulky, and don’t call more than the attention you really need to your feet. That aside, they also help continue the lovely lean figure that skinny jeans create.
For those that don’t feel self-conscious about the size of their feet, pointed toes are a nice pick, as well. Ballet shoes with pointed toes complete a super-slimming look. However, they are not the most comfortable option, and they do make your feet look unattractive-long (too long, that is).
Finally, if you are neither lean nor long, it might be a good idea to choose something else, to avoid emphasizing that fact.
2. Boots
Well, boots and skinny jeans are like butter and bread. It appears that they were made for tucking into boots. That said, you can’t just wear any boot. Some work better with skinny jeans while other styles not.
Tall boots with lower heels are usually better and easier to wear with skinny jeans. Just make sure they are wide enough and they will make you look like a gazelle! Ankle boots, as long as they are not bulky, are also an excellent option.
As a general rule, it is always advised not to wear hefty boots because you don’t want to draw too much attention to your footwear when you wear such a form-fitting pair of jeans. Otherwise, you run the risk of having others focusing on just the lower part of your body rather than the entire outfit.
You should be extra careful when choosing booties to pair with your skinny jeans. They could be a huge hit or miss. To pull them off, you need to keep balance. For example, if you are going to wear booties with chunky heels or platform soles, you also want some volume on top, too. A good piece of advice is to prefer a pair of more delicate and refined booties if you want to achieve a slim look from head to toe.
3. Heels
For wafer-thin figures, basic pumps look great with skinny jeans, provided they have slightly pointed toes. If you are not in this category, consider the rest of your outfit to make a wise choice regarding your footwear. For instance, shorter women look taller wearing high heels. The same applies to curvaceous women (not too curvy though).
Now, with stilettos, it is a different story. High heels elongate the legs, but stilettos make your middle section look significantly bigger by comparison. So, no matter how attracted you may be to the combination, better stay away from stilettos.
Tip: To draw attention away from your hips and thighs (and not look like a pin-up girl that has jumped out of a 50s magazine), wear a top that extends to your hips (at least). Something like a long casual top, mini dress, shirts (loosely-belted), and longer jackets pair well with skinny jeans and heels.
4. Sneakers
A hugely popular combination indeed. Sneakers help create a casual, cool look. Again, you need to know which styles work better to highlight your outfit. Avoid cross-trainers because they are far too puffy and weighty for skinny jeans. Instead, try trim low tops and enhance your look. You may even match your skinny jeans with old-school high tops if you feel they express who you are inside.
CAPRI PANTS
How capri pants look has much to do with a woman’s figure. This is what makes capri pants look awesome or fall short on women. Another very important factor that plays a vital role in wearing capri pants successfully is matching them with the right shoes (see below).
1. Ballerina Flats
They are THE classic option for matching with capri pants and a personal favorite. Peep-toe, leather, sneakers, and satin, they all come with skimmer or ballerina cut and work like magic with capri pants mainly because they are streamlined.
That aside, ballerina type sneakers are also great, as long as they are low-cut. The same goes to lace-up sneakers (i.e. Keds) that help create a beach-comber appearance that will turn heads! Perfect for those loving super casual looks!
2. Sandals
Delicate, flat sandals are a superb choice for the same reason flats are. Make sure they are skimpy and rest assured they will make your legs look gorgeously long. Depending on the look you want to achieve, there are different options. For example, if you want a carefree look you are free to wear anything from patent leather to canvas. If you prefer a more showy appearance, you can always wear metallic or embellished sandals. Jut keep them light, and you will be just fine.
Shoes you Should be Careful With:
1. Pumps
Capri pants and pumps have a strange relationship. They create a retro vibe and a more cultivated look. Now, if you don’t fancy the idea of looking like a Vargas girl, you will need to reconsider that matching.
2. Wedges
This could actually work if you can support it. Personally, I am not a huge fan of them because I find them too bulky to wear with capri pants. However, if you are a loyal follower of wedges and can’t imagine yourself without wearing them, at least go for more delicate styles. Something with elegant uppers, for example, will do.
Shoes you Should Steer Clear Of:
1. Chunky Cross Trainers and Sneakers
Suburban shopping malls promote that look. Alright, they are comfortable, but are they really flattering? I mean, yes, I understand the need to pair capri pants with comfy shoes, but you could easily get that so desired comfort from a pair of slim, canvas sneakers, rather than bulky ones. If you just love wearing cross-trainers, better try them with a nice pair of boot-cut yoga pants that are a huge trend right now.
2. Heavy-Strapped Sandals
Usually, sandals with heavy straps and capri pants don’t play well. They are just so overwhelming that they hurt my eyes, be it heels of flats. Better wear those with your mini dress instead on a dinner date.
3. Clogs
They look horrific with capri pants since they are perhaps the heaviest-looking shoes I can think of right now. Pair them with pants or jeans are you are a style queen, but capri pants? Absolutely not. Even if you feel that leather or rubber ones might look better with capri pants. No and no.
